IRRATIONALITY OF DOCTOR RECERTIFICATION

There was a story in my primary school books about a fox which branded itself thinking it can pass for a tiger.

The step of ”DOCTOR RECERTIFICATION” contemplated in India is similar to this.

After 75 years  of  American boards  people are fed up with  legal extortion  by a handful of  doctors who have essentially become businessman by getting on to the board directors and  having  a cushy life.

You may be surprised any number of patients flocking to uncertified AYUSH doctors and frank quacks who have no medical training.
It has become fashionable to ape the west by ignoring the ground realities in India.

You find fake doctors working in AIIMS ER.
Supreme Court bans jallikattu.
Maneka Gandhi talks about treating rabid packs of street dogs with compassion.

Wake up guys!

India to Doctors: Please Don't Leave or We'll Bring You Back

Another problem from the government’s side is the figure that the ministry is quoting: 3,000 doctors in three years. If you just divide that, it works out to 1,000 doctors per year of a total of 45,000 graduating doctors in India annually or 2.22 percent of the total number of doctors India produces every year. Instead of focusing on the minority, the government should strengthen the post graduate courses in India, which has increased over the years, but still has a long way to go. Currently, for an MD degree, there are a little less than 5,000 seats across the country.
The ministry should focus on the larger picture, the 97.78 students who stay in India. Incentivize their work and give them benefits for choosing to stay behind instead of penalizing the few who go abroad.

India to Doctors: Please Don't Leave or We'll Bring You Back

In various news reports, Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has said, “From this year onwards, any student going for further medical education to the US will have to give us a bond that he will come back after finishing the studies. In the last three years, 3000 doctors went abroad for studies and did not return. Now if a student does not come back from the US, he won't be allowed to practice there.”

YO! Stupid ass! They are not coming back!  Think about the reasons, and the mushrooming private medical colleges.

“he won't be allowed to practice there” how are you going to do this ?
Do you have a treaty with US government?

should I save the next critical patient who comes into the hospital or refer him elsewhere to save myself? Which hospital provides an ambulance to carry a dead body from their facility to the patient's home ,without any payment ?

An excellent essay by a concerned doctor.
Some gems

“Selfless service’ does not require you to give up your soul and life.”

“Selfless service’

People only use that term when they want doctors to go the extra mile.
That selfless service tag stops when the time comes to pay the bill.
When it is time to beat up a doctor or insult the entire fraternity based on one doctor or sometimes, pure ignorance.

“ Why, you can run over innocent people sleeping on the pavement and still be called selfless, as long as you have money to donate in front of the media for a worthy cause, as I found out recently.”

“But I will never allow you to become a doctor in India. Because I did not raise my child for two decades just to watch her lose her sense of right and wrong, of humanity or worse, watch her die.
And I don’t mean just physically.”
“There is also an email sitting in my inbox asking me to sign and share a petition demanding that applications for licensed guns be fast tracked for doctors. I have read it and placed a ‘star’ across the mail. I do not intend to sign it because I don’t advocate guns as a rule… I see children cry everyday when I bring an intravenous cannula near their tiny arms. I do not wish to have them worry about the gun in the doctor’s pocket too. But I empathize with the sorrow of the doctors who made the petition. And I know one day, I too may find myself revisiting this petition should a calamity befall me. As its is, hospitals have started employing bouncers now.”

millions cannot access India’s overburdened hospitals and inadequate medical facilities, a crisis illustrated by the fact that India is short of nearly 500,000 doctors, based on the World Health Organization (WHO) norm of 1:1,000 population, according to an IndiaSpend analysis of government data.
With more than 740,000 active doctors at the end of 2014 -- a claimed doctor-patient population ratio of 1:1,674, worse than Vietnam, Algeria and Pakistan -- the shortage of doctors was one of the health-management failures cited by this report of a parliamentary committee on health and family welfare, which presented its findings to both houses of Parliament on March 8, 2016.

doctors cannot be produced overnight, and if we add 100 medical colleges every year for the next five years, only by the year 2029 will the country have adequate (sic) number of doctors,”
The shortage of doctors, the report said, is despite the increase in medical colleges, from 23 in 1947 to 398 at the end of 2014. India, the report noted, has more medical colleges than any country, and 49,930 admissions were available in 2014.

“In Odisha, a man slung his wife’s body over his shoulder and carried it 10km after being denied an ambulance on August 24, 2016.
In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a man’s sick son died on his shoulder after being denied admission to a Kanpur hospital on August 29, 2016.
“
Is this because there is  a superstitious belief that a dead body carried in a public transport causes untouchability to all the  travelers ?
Which hospital provides an ambulance to carry a dead body from their facility to the patient’s home ,without any payment ?

Why can't reporters ask some simple questions. MBBS exit exam

With the advent of internet and scant  editorial supervision we have  many reporters  simply  copying  official handouts as news articles.

For example in the article below.
The simple questions to ask are.
When is the Govt making it compulsory to register on an all India database of  doctors who are licensed.
When is the  Govt going to enforce that only licensed doctors can practice.
If there are AYUSH practitioners or faith healers or indigenous medicine men, ensure that they are not allowed to prescribe allopathic medicines ?

What will happen to the candidates who did not  get  pass percentage ?
How about SC/St candidates will they be allowed to pass with a lower percentage? If so where will they practice? Will they treat everyone  or only the politicians  who allow this ?

Exit exam for MBBS graduates on cards

Centre mulls test to see if good enough to practice

Why govt wants it

<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>To see if MBBS graduates are good enough to practice

New Delhi, June 21
After rolling out the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate medical admissions this year, the government is mulling an exit exam for MBBS graduates from the next academic session.
The idea is to test MBBS pass outs for skills acquired through the course and see if they are good enough to practise at the end of the drill.
(Follow The Tribune on Facebook and Twitter @thetribunechd)
The exit exam proposed from the 2017-18 academic session will be the first-ever exercise mandating MBBS graduates to attain minimum prescribed percentiles to be able to practice medicine. The license to practice is proposed to be given to only those medical undergraduates who cross the threshold of quality set in terms of marks attained in the exit test.
The catch is — Health Ministry is considering converting the already existing all-India PG medical entrance exam into a three-in-one test which will include the MBBS exit exam. “There will be no additional burden on MBBS students. The objective is to see if the graduate is good enough to practice medicine at the end of his course. We are, however, not proposing a new exam for MBBS exit. The existing all-India PG entrance exam conducted annually around November-end will be used for this purpose. The proposal is to use the PG exam for MBBS exit as also for testing foreign graduates who seek licenses to practice in India,” a Health Ministry official said. At present, there is a separate exam (Foreign Graduates Medical Exam) for foreign graduates seeking equivalence to practice medicine in India.
The idea is to do away with this and offer the PG medical entrance exam to foreign graduates as well.
A ministry source says: “The proposal is to have foreign graduates, Persons of Indian Origin and Overseas Citizens of India holding foreign medical degrees to take one test — the all-India PG entrance test — and become eligible to practice in India. One test will thus serve three purposes.”
The ministry’s argument behind using the PG test as the MBBS exit exam is that annually 95 per cent of MBBS pass outs anyway take the all-India PG entrance exam.
“Those who secure a minimum 45 percentile in the PG entrance exam are eligible to apply for PG courses. This criteria can be fixed as the threshold for MBBS exit exam, which means graduates who touch this mark will be eligible to practice medicine,” a ministry official said.

Appropriate technology shit for the poor!

Appropriate technology means good things for the rich and shit for the poor

Where do you find "Khadi Gramodyog Bhandar" and the  sullen sales people who used to look at me as an interruption in their  daily routine  ,not as a valuable customer.
Employees who will write  the price of the item  in  dirty red indelible pencil on a beautiful handicraft item.

"Appropriate technology"
"Indian ideological leader Mahatma Gandhi is often cited as the "father" of the appropriate technology movement. Though the concept had not been given a name, Gandhi advocated for small, local and predominantly village-based technology to help India's villages become self-reliant. He disagreed with the idea of technology that benefited a minority of people at the expense of the majority or that put people out of work to increase profit.[2] In 1925 Gandhi founded the All-India Spinners Association and in 1935 he retired from politics to form the All-India Village Industries Association. Both organizations focused on village-based technology similar to the future appropriate technology movement.[9]
China also implemented policies similar to appropriate technology during the reign of Mao Zedong and the following Cultural Revolution. During the Cultural Revolution, development policies based on the idea of "walking on two legs" advocated the development of both large-scale factories and small-scale village industries.[2]"

No one advocating "Appropriate technology" a decade or two ag owould have dreamt of cell phone  or internet spread across developing nations,Nor they would have realized the  fantastic  growth in  china and  India.

it is a pity that  some people in India still think of " be indian buy Indian" means people should  live in huts eat  PL -480 grain and die like flies
