Using the services of early adopters and their free services and then ignoring them or outright throwing them out, to cater to paying subscribers is something most big corporations do . They take over small innovative companies which are started by a small group of idealistic individuals bribe them with big bucks and take over their software then either suppress it so that the mediocre software of the giant company can continue to sell and make money or integrate the new software in a pared down fashion and release it in small dregs over a long period of time.
My experience with google translate has been similar
i was greatly impressed with the begining of the translate and the early adoption to a number of langugaes from India which i was interested.
I became the early adopter of the tool kit and used to send wish lists feed back regularly for a number of years then this more wood behind fewer arrows policy of google came in to place and the tool kit has not been updated none of the simple changes asked for were incorporated .
suddenly lot of hoopla about neural network programming is being thrown about as if it is some thing great and brand new which it is not .
the training still has to take place and I am sure they will be asking us to volunteer again for this kind with not talking about all the user interface problems and poor tool kit problems
