I am sick and tired of the so-called thought leaders who compare aviation to medicine.
they keep touting the excellent record of aviation.
It is like comparing Apples to Oranges.
A sensor in a turbo engine works exactly as predicted and needs overhauling after a certain number of days/miles of service. A jet engine does not gorge on excess fuel because it is depressed.
If an airline mechanic needs to do an x-ray to check if there is a fatigue fracture in a fan blade, he does not need preauthorization.
A patient in ICU cannot wait for the next shift doctor for an ET intubation or a central line insertion because the Crew has completed the mandatory number of hours and can not work anymore.( how many times did you wait because the crew walked out and a new crew had to come in)
" 2015 Mayo Clinic study found that doctors who rated their leaders favorably were less likely to report burnout. And medicine is already borrowing from business, with some institutions bringing in executive coaches and offering doctors sessions on mindfulness and positive psychology. And last year, a meta-analysis of studies in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that organizational revamps could make a small, but noticeable difference in reducing physician burnout."
It is these ivory tower academics who churn out such stupid studies.
the worst thing that can happen and is happening is
"medicine is already borrowing from business"
